January 2012 Info Bytes Calendar

Info Bytes returns for Winter Quarter 2012 with a few minor modifications.  It will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:00 and 2:30 in the TLTC (basement of the library).  To view the January calendar, click on the title of this article or on the Info Bytes logo to the left.

The first sessions on January 9 & 10 will provide an overview of  Info Bytes, as well as a meet and greet.  It will provide an opportunity to meet, ask questions, and provide feedback to Kathy Hjortedal-Powell and Erik Moeller, who will be conducting most of the Info Byte sessions.  During those sessions, we will also be soliciting feedback on which topics you would like to learn more about so we can plan the topics for the remainder of the quarter.

Faculty Technology Survey

In an effort to continually improve the data and feedback by which we make technology decisions, we are pleased to invite you to complete the 2011-2012 Faculty Technology Survey, available by clicking the title of this article or the survey picture to the left.

The survey is accessible now and it will remain open through January 13, 2012.  It should take less than 15 minutes to complete the survey.  We greatly appreciate your participation.

New Features in Office 2010 or 2011

Now that most everyone at SFCC has had the opportunity to use the Office 2010 applications, you may have questions about the new features and tools available to you. We'd like to remind you about tools we pointed out in the spring AND tell you about the in-person training opportunities.

Online opportunities for Office 2010 (Windows)

Online opportunities for Office 2011 (Macintosh)

In-person training opportunities

If your department is interested in scheduling one of the in-person training sessions for just your department, contact the HelpDesk to make arrangements.

Photos in Active Directory

You can now request to have a photo of you attached to your college login and e-mail account.  For more details, read the InfoGuide on this subject.

Migration from Windows XP to Windows 7

More and more SFCC staff systems are migrating to Windows 7.  Some items may appear to be lost in the migration.  Read this document to learn how you can recover some of these items.

myBigfoot - A Secure Portal for Students

On July 1, 2011, the Community Colleges of Spokane launched a student portal for students to access all their secure information -- the areas they normally reach from "Current Students" on our Internet site.

Some features of the portal are:
  • register for classes
  • interact with Admissions, Registration and Financial Aid staff
  • receive “targeted announcements” in a more secure manner than e-mail
  • find other school-related topics of interest
